Han Woo Ri

Han Woo Ri is a little cozy place located on South Limestone near the north side of University of Kentucky campus. Han Woo Ri is a Korean restaurant not much larger than a house. The first time I visited Han Woo Ri it was a different experience for me because I never been to a Korean restaurant and this one was probably not like the rest. As you can notice from the picture below Han Woo Ri is not the only business in the building it has three others in only a small two story building and not to my surprise the restaurant is a tiny place in the corner. From what i have noticed not a lot of people go here, but research has shown that more people are aware of the restaurant and are wanting to go.

Korean Culture

The Korean culture is very interesting and full of wonderful traditions. It is a place where you find both peace and harmony, but unfortunately wars and tragedies as well. Korea is a small peninsula on the Far East side of Asia. it is between china and japan. it is connected to mainland Asia in the north. The size of Korea is roughly 1,000 kilometers in length. Korea is a divided country.  Korea was divided at the 38th parallel in 1948. While North Korea is communist, South Korea is considered a republic. Although Korea is modernizing extremely fast, it still holds on to mean traditional values and the old way of life. Where there are not highly populated cities, there are rural areas which are still relatively poor, and still follow traditional ways of life.

Also family and respect is a big part of Korean culture. On most holidays, many relatives get together to share time together and talk. There are some of the older traditions that some people will still follow. One is to visit the oldest member of the family and bow toward them to show respect and to wish them a long life. the traditional food usually eaten on New Year’s Day is Duk Gook, a type of soup
